Nancy Bates of Ontario, founder of Nancy Bates Designs, will show her knitted art at the Redlands Art Association's monthly program. The free program is 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Redlands Art Association Gallery, 215 E. State St. Bates designs knitted beanies inspired by U.S. national parks. She began began knitting when she was young. Her parents owned a yarn store and she worked there when she was in college. She put knitting aside for a time, but a trip to Joshua Tree National Park gave her the idea of designing a hat to look like a Joshua tree, according to a news release.
